A&P License Prep Courses
helo
** This School Is Owned & Operated By Retired US Military Personnel. "Our Results Are Always Guaranteed!" **

Airframe and Powerplant License Pre-Requisites:

To get an A&P License ALL APPLICANTS must first obtain the required FAA "APPROVAL" to take the Computer Certification Exams. The 3 types of "Approval" are:
1. FAA Form 8610-2 (Authorization to Test), Signed by the FAA.
2. Part 147 School, Completion Certificate.
3. JSAMTCC-Military Certificate of Eligibility, Form CG-G-EAE-4

Because the Computer Exams are taken immediately after each Subject / Module, it is mandatory that students obtain "Approval" to take the exams prior to class!

The signed 8610-2 is only obtained via an interview with the FAA. Without it applicants can not complete all of the licensing examinations!

To determine which License Type you are eligible for you will need to schedule an interview to meet with an FAA Maintenance Inspector & have your experience / training evaluated, if the appropriate requirements are met the "Authorization to Test" (FAA Form 8610-2) is signed and issued to you then.

Before the interview you should gather ALL of your aviation related Aircraft Mechanic documentary evidence to present during the interview to establish your eligibility; Training Records, Course Completion Certificates, Letters of Recommendation, Forms DD-214 if Military/Veteran, Quality Assurance Endorsements, Engine Turn Qual Endorsements, etc., the more documentation you can present during this interview the better.

**Aviation Industry Employment Advertisements for mechanics typically read "A&P Mechanics Wanted". - Those ads are soliciting responses from Mechanics that possess; an A&P License, only an Airframe License, or only a Powerplant License. Do not be discouraged if your experience only qualifies you for one or the other of the license types. Many Licensed Aviation Mechanics spend their careers as either an Airframe or Powerplant Mechanic only.

FAR's (Federal Aviation Regulations) are divided into what are called "Parts". This term "Part/Parts" is used by the FAA to designate what we normally think of as "Chapter/Chapters".

FAR Part §65.71   Eligibility requirements: General.

(a) To be eligible for a mechanic certificate and associated ratings, a person must—

(1) Be at least 18 years of age;

(2) Be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language, or in the case of an applicant who does not meet this requirement and who is employed outside of the United States by a U.S. air carrier, have his certificate endorsed “Valid only outside the United States”;

(3) Have passed all of the prescribed tests within a period of 24 months; and

(4) Comply with the sections of this subpart that apply to the rating he seeks.

(b) A certificated mechanic who applies for an additional rating must meet the requirements of §65.77 and, within a period of 24 months, pass the tests prescribed by §§65.75 and 65.79 for the additional rating sought.

FAR Part §65.77   Experience requirements.

Each applicant for a mechanic certificate or rating must present either an appropriate graduation certificate or certificate of completion from a certificated aviation maintenance technician school or documentary evidence, satisfactory to the Administrator, of—

(a) At least 18 months of practical experience with the procedures, practices, materials, tools, machine tools, and equipment generally used in constructing, maintaining, or altering airframes, or powerplants appropriate to the rating sought; or

(b) At least 30 months of practical experience concurrently performing the duties appropriate to both the airframe and powerplant ratings.

Simply put the FAA Minimum Experience Requirements for each license type is:
(A/F) Airframe License; Paragraph (a) above - 18 Months of full time mechanic experience performing airframe mechanic responsibilities.

(P/P) Powerplant License; Paragraph (a) above - 18 Months of full time mechanic experience performing powerplant mechanic responsibilities.

(A&P) Airframe and Powerplant License; Paragraph (b) above - 30 Months of full time mechanic experience concurrently performing both airframe and powerplant mechanic responsibilities.

Military Personnel having a Military Operational Specialty (MOS) code, or (MOS, AFSC, NEC);

Below is a list

of contained in the following tables ARE NOT NECESSARILY ELIGIBILE. However they may use the tables below to obtain an indication of whether or not the FAA will consider their military aviation experience, towards establishing their Eligibility and or Experience Requirements as stated above. Please read the RED highlighted info below in paragraph B - Evaluating Military Experience.

Military Occupational Specialty Codes; below are from Volume 5, AIRMAN CERTIFICATION, of 8900.1, CHG 298, 10/6/14.
The CURRENT CODES, as well as the PREVIOUS CODES may help to establish eligibility along with other governing regulations.

5-1134    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS.

5-1135    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS.

B.    Evaluating Military Experience. With exception to the JSAMTCC A&P certification program experience gained from the military, work as an airframe or powerplant mechanic, or work on an experimental, amateur-built aircraft will receive evaluations on its own merits to determine whether it fulfills the experience requirements. When evaluating military experience, ASIs and ASTs are not to accept MOSs, AFSCs, or NECs “carte blanche” as qualifications to experience as per § 65.77. Even if the MOS suggests authorization for the airframe, powerplant, or both A&P certificates, the inspector will only endorse FAA Form 8610-2, Airman Certificate and/or Rating Application, after ensuring, by a thorough interview and detailed review of records, that the person qualifies under § 65.77.

Figure 5-135.  Military Occupational Specialty Codes

Following are the updated, new, and the older military operational specialty (MOS) codes for the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard enlisted personnel. Use the new codes for active duty time after January 1990. The older codes are still valid for persons wishing to credit their military aviation maintenance experience toward meeting the requirements of the FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic certificate.
